Professor Roman Szewczyk on the Metrology Council of the Central Office of Measures
Prof. Roman Szewczyk, PhD Eng. was appointed to the Metrology Council under the President of the Central Office of Measures.
On 4 August 2022, the Minister of Economic Development and Technology appointed 16 members to the Metrology Council. Among them was Professor Roman Szewczyk, associated with Łukasiewicz – PIAP, elected for a five-year term as a representative of nationwide business organizations and entrepreneurs.
Professor Roman Szewczyk is Chair of the Łukasiewicz – PIAP Council. He also serves as deputy editor-in-chief of the scientific quarterly “Journal of Automation, Mobile Robotics and Intelligent Systems” published by the institute.
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Mechatronics at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 2003, he obtained a PhD in technical sciences, and six years later, a postdoctoral degree in technical sciences. Since 2001, he has been working at the Institute of Metrology and Biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Mechatronics – Warsaw University of Technology.
Professor Roman Szewczyk’s research activities focus on modelling of cyber-physical systems, measurements of magnetic and magnetomechanical properties of soft magnetic materials, electronics in precision measurements, sensorics in security, artificial intelligence and embedded systems using microprocessors with ARM and AVR architectures, among others. The professor has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications in scientific journals, as well as patents. He has carried out research work in international cooperation with many European research centres.
The Metrology Council under the President of the Central Office of Measures was established pursuant to the 2017 amendment to the Law on Weights and Measures. According to the Act, the Council, among other things, gives its opinion on the state and directions of development of national metrology and the substantive activities of the metrology administration. It is composed of representatives of state structures, industry and science.
